Donald Trump endorses Benjamin Netanyahu for Israeli election

In a significant boost for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump endorsed him for Israel's upcoming parliamentary election on October 27. Trump praised Netanyahu as a "great warrior prime minister" and a "greater partner for peace in combating the Islamic Republic of Iran." The endorsement came nine days before the election, which could determine Netanyahu's continued leadership.

The vote follows the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, leading to a conflict in the region. In February, Israel joined the US in launching coordinated strikes against Iran, resulting in the death of Iran's supreme leader. Trump highlighted Iran's anti-Israel and anti-US rhetoric, stating that the regime poses a threat to the region and that unless they change their ways, the US will finish the job.

Netanyahu thanked Trump in a post on X, expressing gratitude for the support and urging continued collaboration. The endorsement is seen as crucial for Netanyahu, who is in a tight race to retain power amidst the ongoing Iran war and conflicts in the West Bank and Gaza. Trump noted Netanyahu's resilience, pointing out that despite facing opposition, including within Israel, he has thrived.

However, Trump also mentioned that if he loses his re-election bid, America might have to handle the Iran situation alone, emphasizing that he is not inclined to do so if Netanyahu is not the leader.
