Tesla’s Flying Car: Price, Release Date, and What It Can Really Do

Tesla has taken a significant step toward creating a flying car with an upgraded version of its Roadster electric sports car. Demonstrated in Texas on October 15, this new model showcased aerial maneuvers such as a midair flip and a jump over other vehicles. However, despite its impressive stunts, the Roadster cannot yet sustain conventional flight.

Unveiled at an event in Texas, the next-generation Tesla Roadster features rocket-inspired technology developed in collaboration with SpaceX. The demonstration marked a dramatic new chapter for the electric sports car, first announced in 2017. While Tesla claims production will start in 2028, the timeline remains uncertain due to previous delays.

The flying capabilities of the Roadster are limited to brief lifts, jumps, and acrobatic maneuvers rather than practical, sustained flight like an airplane. Production pricing details are not yet confirmed, with reservation options ranging from $50,000 for the basic model to $250,000 for a more advanced Thrust version with added thrusters.

The Roadster's top speed and range are also unverified claims, with Tesla not providing final specifications for the more ambitious Rocket version. While the Roadster demonstrates rocket-powered propulsion, safety, energy requirements, and regulatory hurdles remain significant challenges before it can be considered a viable alternative to traditional cars or aircraft for everyday transportation.
