Mumbai Indians have parted ways with former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, according to wire material. Jayawardene, who led the franchise to three IPL titles between 2017 and 2020, was part of the team's coaching staff for the past two seasons. The decision comes following a season in which Mumbai Indians secured only four wins, citing factors such as injuries, player availability, and reported dressing-room unrest.
Jayawardene, who served as Mumbai Indians' global head of performance from 2022 to 2024, indicated his departure in a statement praising the organization and its supporters. The franchise is now expected to initiate a search for a new coach ahead of the upcoming IPL cycle.
