Jayawardene leaves role as Mumbai Indians head coach
Mahela Jayawardene resigned from his position as head coach of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL on Saturday. During his initial tenure from 2017 to 2022, the 49-year-old led the team to three championships. However, upon his return in 2024, the team's performance declined, with a fourth-place finish in 2025, elimination in the playoffs, and ending second-bottom in 2026. In his statement, Jayawardene expressed pride in the achievements made together and wished the team continued success.
