Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar is ramping up its efforts to promote mental health and well-being across various segments of society, as part of the World Mental Health Day observance in October. Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programs Department at the MoPH, highlighted the growing significance of mental health as a crucial healthcare priority, acknowledging its profound effects on individuals, families, and society.
In the past six months, the MoPH has developed standard operating procedures, templates, and key processes for mental health services, alongside updating patients' rights and responsibilities. These actions aim to ensure consistent practices, preserve patients' dignity and rights, and enhance the quality of services.
To encourage stronger collaboration, the ministry is partnering with healthcare institutions, academic and research bodies, and the community. Initiatives like the "Silatha Journey for Women" during the MoPH Mental Health Campaign 2026 focus on raising awareness about women's mental health through panel discussions, workshops, and introducing the "Silatha" application with available support services.
Additionally, the Ministry is collaborating with partners in the health sector and other stakeholders to organize events and programs. Throughout the year, the MoPH conducts various programs, including the Mental Health Promotion Programme for Student Wellbeing 2026 with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, awareness initiatives across different sectors, training-of-trainers programs in youth centers and sports clubs, and a senior citizens' program in partnership with the Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan).
The MoPH urges those dealing with mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, to utilize the National Mental Health Helpline. This service, available by calling 16000 followed by option 4, connects individuals with a specialized team for support.
