Civil Defence Force to run emergency control centres round the clock for monsoon season

KLUANG, Oct 17 — The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is bolstering its readiness for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) by keeping its emergency control centres operational continuously. Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Ghazali Abd Rahman explained that this measure is supported by enhanced communication systems and improved coordination with disaster management committees across various levels.

The objective is to tackle potential issues like floods, water surges, and landslides more effectively. Ghazali emphasized that better communication between the southern, eastern, and central zones will facilitate the deployment of personnel from other zones to areas affected by disasters. With over 12,000 personnel already on standby for the 2026/2027 MTL season, the improved inter-zone coordination will enable the mobilization of additional support teams.

Ghazali announced that APM is also enhancing personnel skills, maintaining and expanding its assets and logistics to ensure seamless rescue operations throughout the monsoon season. In addition, he welcomed the rise in allowances for APM volunteers announced in the 2027 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. While the increase may appear modest, Ghazali believes it will improve morale and motivate personnel to deliver their best service to the public and the nation.
