KLUANG, Oct 17 — The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is taking proactive steps to ensure readiness for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) season. Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Ghazali Abd Rahman announced that the APM will operate its operations control centres continuously to manage emergency responses and disaster relief activities.
This decision is supported by enhanced communication systems and improved coordination with various disaster management agencies. The improved communication will facilitate better coordination among the southern, eastern, and central zones, allowing for quicker deployment of personnel to disaster-affected areas.
Ghazali highlighted that this enhanced communication network will enable additional members to be deployed, as the APM is currently standing by more than 12,000 personnel for the 2026/2027 MTL season. He emphasized that the zones will work together to conduct joint exercises and provide mutual assistance during disasters. Following the closing of the 2026 APM Strategic Partnership Programme with the Media for the Southern Zone, Ghazali spoke about the ongoing efforts to strengthen the APM's preparedness.
The force is also focusing on improving the skills of its personnel, maintaining and expanding its assets and logistics to ensure smooth rescue operations.
Furthermore, Ghazali welcomed the increase in allowances for APM volunteers announced in the 2027 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Volunteer personnel's allowances will rise from RM8 to RM9, while officer allowances will increase from RM9.80 to RM10.80. Although the increase might seem modest, Ghazali believes it will boost morale and motivate personnel to deliver the best service possible to the public and the nation.
