BirthStar: One Birthday, Four Traditions, One Star Chart

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge: Week 2 — Side Hustle. What I built BirthStar — a single-file web app that turns one birthday into a star chart and a detailed horoscope. Not one horoscope, though: four traditions at once. Enter a birthday and BirthStar computes, entirely in your browser: Your Western sun sign , its element, and its ruling planet Your Chinese…

BirthStar is a web application that takes one's birthday and generates a star chart, along with detailed horoscope readings based on four different astrological traditions. This includes the Western sun sign, its element and ruling planet, the Chinese zodiac animal, element and yin/yang, the moon phase on the day of birth, and the life path number derived from the birth date.

After processing this data locally in the browser, BirthStar sends the chart to an open-weight model, specifically Meta's Llama 3.3 70B model via Groq's free tier, to generate an original astrological reading that weaves together all four traditions into one cohesive report. The result is a unique six-section horoscope, including a chart overview, sun sign core, cross-currents, life path, this week's horoscope, and lucky details such as a color, number, and small ritual.

Unlike traditional horoscope apps that often require personal data and subscriptions, BirthStar is completely free, open-source, and maintains privacy by keeping all calculations on the user's device. The model used can be swapped out for others with ease, ensuring the application remains adaptable and accessible to all interested in astrology.
