Elon Musk has once again accomplished the extraordinary by launching a new Tesla Roadster that not only accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than a second, but also flies. This feat, a convergence of Tesla and SpaceX's engineering prowess, represents the realization of science fiction. The Roadster, unveiled to guests in a demonstration at SpaceX's Texas facility, soars through the air, performing 360-degree flips mid-flight and landing smoothly on its wheels.

Unlike a traditional sports car, the Tesla Roadster does not come equipped with standard safety features, but Musk has hinted at future models with comparable capabilities. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 370 km/h and accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 81 thousandths of a second when powered by SpaceX's propulsion system.

The Roadster's unique ability to hover, demonstrated by ascending a giant ramp and landing upside down, is made possible by a combination of propulsion and a suction system that creates downward force (downforce), mimicking air resistance beneath the vehicle. The vehicle's advanced aerodynamics and motorized fans maximize traction and high-speed cornering.

When driven on a track, the Roadster can be lowered for optimal performance, with adjustable downforce levels depending on the racing conditions. Available for reservations on Tesla's website, the basic model is currently only available for non-flying purposes, while the "Rocket" version, capable of flying and performing aerial stunts, is reserved for guests.

The production of the Roadster is set to begin in 2028, but the project has been delayed for years. While the Roadster won't significantly impact Tesla's sales figures, it serves to restore the brand's prestige and showcase the company's engineering capabilities. SpaceX's recent achievement of landing a rocket vertically at its launch pad has added to the excitement surrounding Musk's latest innovation.
