The inaugural Sastralian Premier League (SPL) will commence next month, uniting eight teams to bolster the cricketing prospects of Ananda Shasthralaya National School in Matugama. The tournament, organized by the Old Sastralians Cricket Association in partnership with the school, aims to identify emerging talent while providing the necessary financial backing for the school’s cricket development program.
Each franchise must field a squad of 16 players, excluding the captain, and a maximum of six guest players, with at least two current school cricketers guaranteed a spot in the playing XI. The competition, divided into two groups, will see a total of 16 matches played across November 7, 8, and 15, with November 16 reserved as a backup day.
Beyond the matches, the organizers anticipate the tournament will bring financial benefits to school cricket and strengthen bonds between past and present cricket enthusiasts.
