AI Can Build Your React UI in Seconds. What About the Backend?

A few weeks ago, I opened Cursor and gave Claude a single prompt: "Generate a modern task management dashboard with filtering, search, pagination, and a modal form to create tasks." In under fifteen seconds, it delivered hundreds of lines of polished Tailwind JSX, responsive grid layouts, and lucide-react icons. I clicked preview, and my jaw dropped. It looked like something a high-end design…

A few weeks ago, author Joshua Rosenblum experimented with Cursor and Claude, providing them with a single prompt to generate a modern task management dashboard. Within fifteen seconds, the AI produced hundreds of lines of polished Tailwind JSX, responsive grid layouts, and lucide-react icons. However, upon trying to use the generated dashboard, the author discovered that the AI had inserted a hardcoded useState() array with dummy data, resulting in no data persistence, loading skeletons, or error handling.

This issue highlights the limitations of AI code generators, which typically employ one of two patterns. The first pattern involves using in-memory useState constants, as seen in the example where the AI created an array of dummy tasks. The problem with this approach is that the data is wiped upon browser refresh, and there are no network requests or actual backend interactions.

The second pattern connects to stateless echo endpoints, but this too falls short, as subsequent GET queries fail to return the newly created records.

To overcome these limitations and create truly functional, clickable prototypes, Rosenblum suggests providing AI models with a stateful API contract in the prompt. Instead of letting the AI invent dummy data, instruct it to connect directly to Playground API by Niles Labs, a cloud-based sandbox that offers real HTTP requests. By doing so, developers can instruct AI models to generate fetch or TanStack Query hooks that interact with a live, persistent cloud sandbox.

Rosenblum provides an example of an AI-generated functional React Todo app that integrates with the Playground API sandbox. The AI model writes clean, production-ready code that utilizes real HTTP requests, supports pagination, full-text search, latency simulation, and error simulation. This approach eliminates the need for developers to spend hours setting up backend infrastructure, allowing them to focus on building the frontend using AI-generated code in a matter of minutes.

ChatGPT Sends ResistGate More Visitors Than Social Media Does

Every Chrome Web Store listing gets its own Google Analytics property. I exported the ones for my three extensions this week, mostly to find honest numbers for my homepage.

  • AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini drove 137 new visitors to ResistGate's store page.
  • Social media platforms contributed only 12 visitors during the same period.

AI Agents Are Arriving Faster Than Operating Models

Organizations can deploy agent capability faster than they can make delegated work accountable. AI agents are entering organizations as technology, but they are changing organizations as participants…

  • AI agents deployed faster than organizations adapt their operating models.
  • AI agents can generate polished briefings in minutes from relevant data.
  • Organizations need governance and work system changes to manage AI agents effectively.
