This budget E and Z Mount pancake lens is only as thick as a stack of ten pennies – and it still has autofocus

The compact camera's viral popularity has sparked a resurgence of interest in pancake lenses. Budget lens manufacturer TTArtisan has now introduced an AF 24mm f/3.8 Mini lens that fits an f/3.8 aperture and autofocus within a lens weighing just 57 grams / 2 ounces. The lens, designed for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts, boasts a small form factor, with its mounting protruding only 16mm / .6 inches – roughly the thickness of ten pennies.

Despite its diminutive size, the lens incorporates a VCM autofocus capable of focusing as close as .3m / 11.8 inches from the front. The lens comprises six optical elements spread across six groups, featuring two extra-low dispersion and two aspherical elements. The lens houses a built-in lens cover, activated via a slider at the front, and also includes a USB-C port for firmware updates.

TTArtisan, known for producing budget compact lenses, unveiled the 24mm Mini, which is even slimmer than their existing AF 27mm f/2.8 and AF 14mm f/3.5 lenses, specifically designed for APS-C sensors. Currently available for the Sony E-mount, the lens will soon be compatible with Nikon Z mounts. Orders can be placed through TTArtisan and retailers such as B&H (US) and Clifton Cameras (UK).

Priced at $99 / £89, the pancake lens can be ordered from the manufacturer's website as well as these retailers.
