Sindh Signs 16 Investment Agreements With Chinese Companies

The Sindh government inked 16 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Chinese firms at the Sindh Investment and Trade Conference held in Shanghai, aiming to lure investments into the province. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah addressed the media and highlighted that the conference would generate new investment prospects for Chinese businesses.

He pledged full protection and one-window facilities to streamline the investment procedure. The conference, orchestrated by the Sindh government, drew around 400 representatives from over 100 Chinese and international companies. In addition to MoUs, several agreements were inked between private sector entities. Shah stated that the administration is in pursuit of investment across diverse sectors like Thar coal, electric vehicles, EV charging stations, wind and solar energy, agriculture, and digital development.

He expressed optimism that Karachi could mirror Shanghai's growth. Emphasizing Sindh's economic potential, Shah pointed out that the province contributes over 27% of Pakistan's national economy. He further elaborated that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is centered on industry, agriculture, minerals, and technology.

He also mentioned that the Thar region houses substantial coal and granite reserves, while Sindh's wind corridor has the capacity to produce more than 50,000 megawatts of electricity. The conference also presented development and industrial projects amounting to billions of dollars, including the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, a primary CPEC project encompassing more than 1,530 acres. The zone offers investors a 10-year tax exemption and duty-free machinery imports.
