Wayne Rooney commended Carlos Baleba's performance despite Manchester United's recent 2-0 loss. The midfielder made his debut for the club after joining from Brighton and Hove Albion for £70 million. Due to an ankle ligament injury, Baleba's start to the season was delayed, with his first appearance arriving last weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
Replacing Youri Tielemans, Baleba made an immediate impact as a starter, marking his Champions League debut. Partnering Andrey Santos, the 22-year-old contributed three recoveries, two tackles, and an interception, showcasing his athleticism. With Kobbie Mainoo sidelined due to injury, Santos played a more advanced role. Baleba's efforts were acknowledged by Rooney who stated Baleba "brought energy" to the midfield, complementing Santos' efforts.
Although Baleba is likely to retain his position for the upcoming match against Leeds United, Carrick might need to make a tactical decision on who drops out of the lineup to accommodate Baleba's arrival.
