Krankenkassen: Beitragssatz bleibt 2027 stabil – Risiken bestehen weiter

Despite stable average additional contributions, many insured individuals in Germany may have to pay more for their health insurance in the coming year. Health Minister Carsten Linnemann (CDU) announced a stable average additional contribution rate of 2.9 percent for 2027, following the health insurance (GKV) insurer's financial forecast.

The GKV leading association warned about existing financial risks and criticized higher burdens for high earners. The actual additional contribution rate is determined by the respective insurer, as emphasized by the insurer. Linnemann stated after announcing the official estimate: "We have achieved our main goal: The average additional contribution rate will remain stable next year."

Minutes before, professionals from his ministry, the insurer association, and the Federal Social Security Office in Bonn had announced a computational rate of unaltered 2.9 percent for 2027 based on estimation results. The coalition had worked on this rate for months. Broad front increases in insurer contributions were no longer expected.

The health ministry announced the average additional contribution rate until November 1. Already on July 30, a billion-euro law to stabilize GKV finances came into effect under Linnemann's predecessor Nina Warken (CDU). For many spouses and partners, a 2.5 percent contribution will be due for the free joint insurance from now on.

Premiums for medication increase by 50 percent. Cost-saving measures affect practices, clinics, pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry. At the Bundestag, SPD health politician Christos Pantazis used the debate to call for an emergency reform, highlighting the estimator circle's prognostication: "Our efforts to stabilize GKV finances are bearing fruit."
