The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) unveiled a framework on Thursday to guide the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence in the banking industry. The initiative emphasizes accountability, resilience, and trust as key principles. Arthur Yuen, Deputy Chief Executive, highlighted that the shift from generative to agentic AI represents a significant advancement in banking sector innovation.
Yuen explained that by combining innovation with clear accountability, resilient operating models, and effective human oversight, banks can maximize the advantages of AI while preserving trust and stability for Hong Kong's financial system.
Key components of the framework comprise new supervisory guidance on responsible AI adoption, an AI training data sharing platform in partnership with Cyberport and the University of Hong Kong, and additional testing of agentic AI applications through a sandbox program. According to the HKMA, over 60 percent of the use cases investigated during the second cohort of a generative AI sandbox trial incorporated agentic AI applications.
The Authority is currently exhibiting the positive outcomes of these applications during the two-day Finance+AI Forum, held in collaboration with Cyberport.
