Elche's Mas alla de la piel, or Beyond the Skin, photography exhibition is currently showcasing the personal experiences of women facing breast cancer. This exhibition, organized by Elche Council and AMACMEC, uses powerful images to focus on the people, emotions and experiences rather than just the disease. The exhibition, which can be visited until October 31 at the former chapel of Las Clarisas, forms part of Elche's Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.
The project was inspired by conversations between several women from AMACMEC during their treatment. Association president Consuelo Martinez hopes the exhibition will show that life continues after the disease and provide a message of hope to others undergoing treatment. Photographer Nerea Perez faced the challenge of portraying vulnerable experiences, capturing various stages from the initial diagnosis to moving forward with hope.
Elche councillor for Social Action Celia Lastra encourages residents to visit the exhibition to put faces and individual experiences behind the disease.
