Karachi University to Digitize Academic and Administrative Services

The University of Karachi has unveiled its strategy to transition its academic, administrative, and financial systems to a digital format, aiming to enhance student services, minimize paperwork, and boost transparency. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Wasim Qazi has convened a nine-member task force to devise a blueprint for the university's digital metamorphosis.

This proposed system will enable students to access an array of university services via their mobile devices, including course materials, assignments, attendance records, examination timetables, results, transcripts, certificates, and library resources. The platform will also encompass admissions, enrollment, course registration, timetables, academic progress, application submissions, and status tracking, thereby reducing the necessity for students to physically visit university offices for routine inquiries.

Faculty members will similarly gain access to digital instruments for overseeing courses, student evaluations, attendance, and academic records. The university intends to digitize its administrative and financial functions as well, encompassing employee records, salaries, budgeting, procurement, and official correspondence. As per a notification dated October 11, Professor Dr. Nadeem Mahmood from the Department of Computer Science will spearhead the task force.

The committee will evaluate the university's current IT infrastructure and propose an appropriate Learning Management System (LMS), digital tools, cybersecurity protocols, and funding requisites. It has been tasked with submitting its recommendations and a comprehensive PC-I project proposal within four working days. The report will encompass projected expenses, technical prerequisites, and a staged implementation plan. The recommendations will be forwarded to the vice chancellor for further deliberation.
