As Rajinikanth returns in Jailer 2, how first film set up Vidya Balan-SJ Suryah-starrer
Action star Rajinikanth's highly anticipated sequel, Jailer 2, is poised to become one of his most successful films to date, based on advance bookings and pre-release buzz. The film has already sold over 14.47 lakh tickets for its opening day in India, earning Rs 30.90 crore at the domestic box office. Overseas, advance sales for the opening day have crossed Rs 25 crore.
In Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth's home state, the film has generated Rs 10 crore in opening-day advance sales alone, with Chennai contributing the majority of that amount. The film's worldwide opening-day advance sales could potentially surpass Rs 100 crore, given the strong pre-release buzz and additional spot bookings. Jailer 2 stars Rajinikanth alongside Sasikumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Hrithik Roshan, and Mohanlal in cameo appearances.
The film, produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, is scheduled for a global release on October 15.
