In a predawn raid on Monday, U.S. authorities conducted a search warrant at the Washington-area home of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar to investigate her immigration paperwork, according to Fox News Digital. The Department of Justice confirmed the raid was part of an ongoing federal investigation into the fraudulent paperwork completed by Omar's late father when she was a child.

A DOJ spokesperson stated that "this enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation." Omar's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Democratic lawmaker has been a target of harsh political insults from President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called for stricter immigration policies, including singling out Somalis and Muslims.

Omar has dismissed Trump's focus on her as a "creepy obsession." Last week, Trump also called Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate from Michigan Abdul El-Sayed a "radical extremist" and "terrorist sympathizer" while supporting Republican candidate Mike Rogers. Civil rights groups have criticized Trump's rhetoric towards minorities and immigrants, including his previous derogatory comments about Somalis.

In February, Trump suggested that Omar and other Democratic lawmakers should be "institutionalized" and sent back to their countries of origin. Omar has faced violence for her progressive views, including an incident last month when a man threw vinegar at her, for which he was sentenced to one year and two months in prison.
