Federal agents search Ilhan Omar’s home as part of fraud investigation – reports

Federal agents conducted a search of Representative Ilhan Omar's Washington DC residence on Monday morning as part of a criminal fraud investigation, according to reports from the Associated Press and Fox News. The Department of Justice (DoJ) confirmed the search in a statement to Fox News Digital. Fox News reported, based on unnamed sources, that the agents were focusing on the immigration paperwork that Omar's father completed when she was a child.

The nature of the warrant remains unclear, as neither Omar's office, the DoJ, the Department of Homeland Security, nor the White House provided further comment. The allegations against Omar, primarily by Donald Trump and his allies, concern her citizenship status, with claims that she obtained citizenship fraudulently. Omar has consistently denied these accusations.

Trump has frequently made these claims, leading to Omar becoming the U.S.'s first Muslim congresswoman in 2019. Despite the fact that the search occurred just three weeks before a crucial midterm election, it is expected to fuel further accusations that Trump is using government resources for political gain.
