SKMM komited pastikan inisiatif digital dalam Belanjawan 2027 beri manfaat nyata

The Multimedia and Communications Commission (SKMM) has pledged to ensure that every initiative announced in the 2027 Budget is implemented effectively, delivering tangible benefits to the public, industry and the nation. Established under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the independent body assures that each initiative will continue to drive digital economic development and strengthen Malaysia's position as a competitive digital nation.

Among the key initiatives is RM5 billion for the National Digital Backbone to expand high-speed internet coverage in non-metro and rural areas, including Orang Asli settlements. The funds will also boost cross-state and cross-national road and railway connectivity across the country. RM1 billion is earmarked to boost the national digital health ecosystem, including improving healthcare infrastructure, supporting electronic health records expansion, telemedicine and drone drug delivery - enhancing healthcare access in remote and rural areas.

RM142 million is allocated to strengthen the National Information Centre, providing digital and AI skills training along with AI-powered economic and business development support. The development of the Smart Ocean Fiber Backbone system will enhance connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, supporting an inclusive and robust digital economy.

In education, free Wi-Fi at all public higher education institutions will expand internet access for students, support digital learning and nurture future talent. To enhance cybersecurity, the Sovereign AI Cloud development and measures to strengthen national cyber resilience will focus on data sovereignty, safe AI development and digital ecosystem resilience.

SKMM will continue to promote the Safe Internet Campaign in schools nationwide and combat digital fraud, including through blocking over 5.7 billion spam calls and scam call services.
