SKMM komited pastikan inisiatif digital dalam Belanjawan 2027 beri manfaat nyata

The Communications and Multimedia Authority of Malaysia (SKMM) has committed to ensuring that every initiative announced in the 2027 Budget will be successful and translate into tangible benefits for the people, industries, and the nation. Established under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, SKMM has assured that each initiative will continue to drive the digital economic development and strengthen Malaysia's position as a competitive digital nation.

Among the main initiatives announced is a RM5 billion allocation for the National Digital Backbone to expand high-quality internet coverage to rural and remote areas, including Orang Asli settlements. This initiative also includes increasing cross-border and highway telecommunications networks and 1,700km railway lines across the country.

RM1 billion will be allocated to boost Malaysia's digital health ecosystem through the Digital Health and Connectivity Ecosystem Accelerator. This initiative will enhance health sector digital infrastructure and connectivity, including supporting the rollout of Electronic Medical Records, telemedicine, and drone-assisted drug delivery, thereby improving access to healthcare services in rural and remote areas.

A further RM142 million will be allocated to strengthen the National Information Distribution Center to empower digital communities through digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills training, as well as support the development of local enterprises and economies.

The development of the Strategic Oceanic Cable System will enhance connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak to support more inclusive and resilient digital economic growth. In the education sector, Wi-Fi will be provided in all public higher education institutions to expand internet access for students, support digital learning, and develop future talents.

To strengthen cybersecurity, the development of Sovereign AI Cloud and efforts to enhance national cyber resilience will focus on data sovereignty, safe AI development, and ecosystem resilience against digital threats. SKMM will also continue to promote the Safe Internet Campaign in schools across Malaysia and combat digital fraud, including by blocking over 5.7 billion scam calls and text messages.
