Zara Qairina Mahathir passed away in Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, a day after being found unconscious near her school dormitory in the early hours. Her mother, Noraidah Lamat, informed the Coroner's Court that she agreed with the medical expert's explanation that the swelling on her daughter's backside observed during the funeral was not the result of being struck, but rather due to blood clotting.

The 46-year-old mother was informed of this matter by a doctor on August 10 of the previous year after raising concerns that the swelling might have been caused by a blunt object. When questioned by counsel Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah, Noraidah confirmed that no doctor who treated Zara Qairina had ever confirmed any injury caused by a blunt object, as previously claimed by media statements from her family's counsel on August 3 of the previous year.

However, Noraidah explained that the media statement was issued as a follow-up to a police report made in the Intensive Care Unit (IPD) Sipitang to seek further investigation into the cause of her daughter's swelling observed during her funeral on July 17, 2025. She added that the family took this step at that time because they had not received any clear explanation from the investigating authorities about the true condition that affected Zara, which led to multiple questions about her death.

Noraidah also informed the court that she never concluded on her own that her son was struck with a blunt object, but instead handed over the matter to the authorities for investigation. Zara Qairina Mahathir died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, a day after being found unconscious near the entrance of her school dormitory in the early morning. The inquest proceedings continued this evening.
