Doha, Qatar - Qatar University (QU) is commemorating World Mental Health Day throughout October with a series of initiatives aimed at fostering discussion, sharing expertise, and promoting mental wellbeing among students and faculty members. This program is part of QU's ongoing commitment to supporting mental health in Qatar.
The program kicked off on October 4th with a session titled 'Mental Health in Qatar: Challenges and Prospects', organized by QU's Community Service and Continuing Education Center. Additional events are scheduled for October 13th and 14th, bringing together students, faculty members, and partnering organizations.
A highlight of the program will be an exhibition showcasing the work and mental health initiatives of the participating organizations on October 13th. On October 13th, H.E. Sheikha Dr. Hessa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson and Founder of The Center for Wellbeing, will lead a workshop titled 'The Good Vessel'. On October 14th, a panel discussion titled 'Lived Experiences: Creating Real Change' will explore how personal experiences can deepen understanding of mental health and inspire meaningful change, featuring speakers from the various organizations involved.
Dr. Nawaf Al-Zyoud, Head of the Psychological Sciences Department at QU's College of Education, expressed the university's ambition to help build a future where mental wellbeing is an integral part of education, healthcare, and community life. QU intends to advance this future by preparing professionals who recognize mental health as essential to overall health and by generating research that can inform better support and care.
