Usaha martabat bahasa Melayu perlu seiring teknologi, kata Ismail Sabri

Former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob emphasized the importance of adapting the promotion of the Malay language to modern technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), during the 5th International Symposium on Aspirations of the Malay Language (SAABM) in Kuala Lumpur. He stressed that if the Malay language is to maintain a place in the future, efforts should be made to develop a corpus of the language, digital data banks, and processing technologies that can understand Malay language proficiently.

Additionally, he highlighted the need to enrich Malay language with new terms, works, and ideas to respond to changes in human life, particularly in scientific and technological fields like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, digital economy and information technology, which require specialized terminology, references and scholarly content to further enrich our language.

Furthermore, Ismail stressed the importance of nurturing the younger generation's confidence and appreciation towards the Malay language during the education system and at home. He also encouraged the utilization of the cooperation among the Nusantara countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore in the fields of education, research, publishing, and digital platforms to enable local works and ideas to be recognized globally.

Ismail noted that promoting the Malay language does not mean rejecting foreign languages, as openness to languages and world knowledge will provide more space for introducing our language and culture. He emphasized that having a strong and resilient generation with pride in their Malay language while also being able to communicate and compete in the international community is desirable.
