The 2026 Chicago Education Commission elections in the 6b district saw two first-time candidates, Michael Neal and Brittany Kimble, competing for the seat. Both candidates are newcomers to the race and have received support from various groups. Neal, a local resident and former CPS student, plans to improve early childhood education while Kimble aims to address reading and math proficiency and the school district's budget issues.
Both candidates received support from The Urban Center, a politically moderate organization promoting school choice between public and private institutions. Neal, a pastor at Oakland's Glorious Light Church, has been involved in community reading programs and runs a nonprofit organization focused on improving educational opportunities for Black males.
Kimble, a single mother and attorney, has faced financial difficulties due to running a law practice and applying for bankruptcy protection. She plans to tackle the structural deficit in Chicago Public Schools and improve student academic performance if elected.
