Presidency urges nationwide expansion of electric vehicle initiatives

President Bola Tinubu has advocated for the nationwide growth of electric vehicle programs in Nigeria, emphasizing that private sector investments could aid the Federal Government's mission to modernize Nigeria's transportation infrastructure. Prince Adetokunbo Ade-John, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, announced this call at the ProTaxi e-hailing platform's introduction in Abuja on Thursday.

Ade-John lauded Emmanuel Oloche, CEO of PromiseLand Innovation, for deploying 1,000 electric vehicles, which he deemed as a tangible illustration of the nation's push towards a transformed transportation and mobility landscape. The Federal Government is also advancing the deployment of electric buses and compressed natural gas-powered vehicles.

Ade-John encouraged PromiseLand Innovation to continue and extend the initiative throughout Nigeria, urging Nigerians to back locally-developed solutions, particularly noting Oloche's personal investment in the venture. "If one individual can accomplish this with his own resources, we don't require external investors," Ade-John stated.

Oloche explained that the ProTaxi platform was part of PromiseLand Innovation's broader strategy to employ technology for economic opportunities, facilitating drivers and their families' advancement from poverty to prosperity. The platform aims to generate prospects for drivers and their families, alongside offering Nigerians an economical mode of transportation via electric mobility.

"By creating opportunities for thousands of drivers, we're not just impacting families, we're reshaping communities," Oloche expressed. The company has plans to expand beyond Nigeria and construct an African technology firm that can compete globally, stating that their objective is to utilize technology to enhance everyday living and eventually challenge the world's best companies.
