Wicknell Chivayo, wife among dead in Zimbabwe helicopter crash

Wicknell Chivayo, a prominent Zimbabwean businessman, and his wife, Lucy "Lulu" Muteke, tragically died in a helicopter crash in Marondera Rural, east of Harare, on Wednesday evening. The Zimbabwean government has confirmed that the crash was fatal with no survivors. The aircraft was carrying a high-profile businessman, four other passengers, and two pilots when it crashed at around 5pm local time.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana made the confirmation, stating that initial information indicated no survivors. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) separately confirmed the incident and stated that investigations and victim identification were underway, with the names expected to be officially confirmed by authorities. Chivayo, known for his lavish lifestyle, high-profile charitable donations, and close ties to influential figures, had been active on social media, making several high-value donations in the days leading up to the crash.

The news of the crash sparked widespread reaction in Zimbabwe and Kenya, where he had business dealings and was a close friend to President William Ruto.
