Regev presses for Flydubai flight suspension

Israel’s Transport Minister Miri Regev has urged the suspension of all Flydubai flights to Israel following a serious cockpit incident on a Dubai-Tel Aviv service. The emergency landing in Saudi Arabia prompted Regev to request the Shin Bet security service to halt Flydubai’s operations pending an investigation and compliance with security protocols.

This development came after the aircraft made emergency signals while flying towards Tel Aviv, resulting in a safe landing in Tabuk, north-western Saudi Arabia. Flydubai reportedly confirmed that all passengers were accounted for and receiving care, but the airline did not disclose details about the nature of the incident or the identities of the involved crew members.

Israeli officials are determining whether the episode constituted a security or terror-related incident, but crucial details regarding the violent confrontation between pilots, which some reports suggest occurred, remain under investigation. The Israeli government is scrutinizing the event to ascertain if it violated security or contractual requirements.

Regev’s demand to suspend Flydubai’s operations was partly attributed to allegations that one of the pilots was an Omani national, a claim not independently verified by either the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabian aviation authorities.
