Opposition may seek FIRs against those without immunity

Against the 2023 law shielding CEC Gyanesh Kumar and two ECs, opposition may seek FIRs against ECI functionaries lacking immunity protections, keeping the watchdog under scrutiny for allegedly undermining democracy. The opposition has decided to file a petition in the Supreme Court in the ongoing challenge to the 2023 Act. This move will coincide with the India bloc's efforts to pressure for the repeal of the immunity law.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi assured India bloc members that the country will remember them 10-15 years later as the ones who saved the Constitution and democracy. He claimed that the BJP's ruling system is falling apart, and more government exposure will occur within the next 6-8 months. The meeting's mood favored agitation, with suggestions for marches and dharnas; however, CPI-ML's Dipankar Bhattacharya emphasized the need to act decisively.

He proposed a six-day action plan starting October 2, and the proposal was adopted. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi praised the opposition's unity in fighting vote chori and urged parties not to lose sight of the national perspective. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee commented that Rahul Gandhi can be the Prime Minister, and she has no ego on the issue.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge refuted the fight for the Prime Minister's post, stating that it is for saving democracy. SP MP Harendra Malik appealed for Congress to make sacrifices regarding UP seat-sharing, suggesting that regional parties could hinder the BJP's progress. Uddhav Thackeray called for Congress to join forces with allies in an agitation.

Some parties expressed frustration over Congress's delay in convening the INDIA meeting after the last one on June 8, stressing the necessity of a coordination committee. Tamil Nadu representatives mentioned the absence of DMK, but Congress brass assured that the party was in contact with their former ally. Sibal cautioned about delimitation being an issue.
