Iran Receives US Feedback On Seven-Day Trust-Building Plan

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi received feedback from the United States on a proposed seven-day trust-building plan in Doha on Tuesday, according to an official who was briefed on the talks. The main obstacle to the agreement appears to be the sequencing of the proposed steps, rather than the specific components of the plan, the official noted. Araqchi is scheduled to discuss the US response in Tehran on Wednesday, the official added.

In the seven-day proposal, Iran suggested reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring normal maritime passage if certain conditions were met. However, US President Donald Trump had previously rejected the proposal, leading to further mediation efforts by Qatar. Araqchi and his team met with Qatari mediators on their return from the United States on Monday, according to the official.

The document outlining the proposed seven-day trust-building plan outlines a period of cooperation aimed at returning the two sides to an enhanced version of the June memorandum of understanding. This memorandum included concrete steps regarding Iran’s nuclear program, the official explained, without providing further details. The disagreement primarily revolves around the timing of the proposed actions, rather than the specifics of the plan itself.

Qatar has been actively facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran in an attempt to resolve the conflict and reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The June memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States had resulted in a brief ceasefire and addressed issues related to the strait and Iran's nuclear program.
