Iran receives US feedback on 7-day trust-building plan

Qatari mediators conveyed feedback from Washington to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Monday regarding a seven-day trust-building plan aimed at improving relations between Tehran and Washington, with sequencing the main issue, according to an official briefed on the talks. Araqchi is set to discuss the US response in Tehran on Wednesday, the official added.

The proposal, presented by Iran last week, called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring normal maritime passage if certain conditions were met. However, US President Donald Trump rejected the plan, leading to further Qatari mediation. The circulated document outlines a seven-day period of trust-building to return the two sides to an enhanced version of the June memorandum of understanding, including concrete steps on Iran's nuclear program, without further details.

The disagreement centers on the sequencing of the steps rather than the plan's components. Qatar has been actively mediating between Washington and Tehran to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, following the brief ceasefire achieved under the June memorandum of understanding, which included provisions on the strait and Iran's nuclear program.
