I checked out the new Samsung SmartTag3 — here’s why this tracker could be a game-changer

The Samsung SmartTag3 is set to challenge Apple AirTags in the market. This new release from Samsung boasts cross-OS support, making it more appealing to users regardless of their preferred platform. At a recent Samsung event, I got to test the SmartTag3 and was impressed by its sleek design and impressive features. During the presentation, a cute dog demonstrated how the tags can benefit pet owners.

The SmartTag3 is perfect for tracking both personal belongings and pets. Priced at $29 for a one-pack and $99 for a four-pack, it will hit U.S. stores in early November. Samsung has also released new accessories for the tags, including a silicone case with a keyring and a loop case. The design of the SmartTag3 has evolved from a key fob to a compact puck, making it 35% smaller and 33% lighter than its predecessor.

The new tag features an aluminum-decorated button, giving it an elegant and durable look. As a bonus, the tags feel smooth to the touch. One of the most significant upgrades for the Galaxy SmartTag lineup is cross-OS compatibility for both Galaxy and iOS devices. This means that whether you're an iPhone or Android user, you can benefit from the SmartTag3's core finding and sharing features.

The tag also comes with a Compass View feature, which uses up to 60 meters of guidance to help locate lost items. If the tag moves beyond its connection range, Samsung's Galaxy Find Network takes over, using over 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide to locate the SmartTag3. Additional features include Place Notification, which alerts you when objects or pets leave their usual locations, and Location History, which lets you review the tag's movement.

The SmartTag3 promises up to 550 days of battery life under normal use and up to 790 days in power-saving mode, making it a more sustainable option compared to Apple's Smart Tags, which typically last around a year. With these improvements, Samsung has made the SmartTag3 a more versatile and appealing choice for anyone looking to keep track of their belongings, whether they're a pet owner or simply looking to avoid losing important items.
