LAHORE: Punjab's Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared "Healthy Heart, Healthy Punjab" as their commitment on World Heart Day. Recognizing the crucial role of medical professionals, she paid tribute to doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff. Emphasizing prevention over cure, she highlighted the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle changes to combat heart diseases.
The CM pledged to establish Cath labs and cardiology centers in all district hospitals across the province. So far, 7,294 cardiac patients have undergone successful procedures at Cath labs in six districts of Punjab, with 4,448 angiographies and 2,763 angioplasties performed. Temporary pacemakers were successfully implanted in two patients at the District Headquarters Hospital in Kasur, and additional Cath labs are planned to be set up in eight districts by November and seven more by February.
Free medicines, stents, and bypass surgeries are being provided to heart patients, while free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings are conducted at Clinics on Wheels and Field Hospitals. The CM urged students to steer clear of junk food and smoking.
