Google aware of Android Auto bug that blocks calls if your foldable phone is closed

An Android Auto bug has reportedly been blocking outgoing calls from closed foldable phones, such as the Motorola Razr. Google and Motorola are aware of the issue, suggesting a fix may be forthcoming soon. Foldable devices come in various forms, with the Motorola Razr being a standout due to its nostalgic association. Similar to the original Razr flip phone from the mid-2000s, foldable phones often utilize the outer display for functionalities like calling.

However, a bug has emerged that prevents making calls when the Motorola Razr is closed and connected to Android Auto. Attempting an outgoing call triggers an error message suggesting opening the phone, which negates the convenience of owning a foldable device. The bug has been reported by users of the Razr Ultra 2025 and Razr Ultra 2026 models.

A potential solution involves reverting to using Google Assistant instead of Gemini, but the latter was completely removed from Android on September 28. Both Google and Motorola are aware of the Android Auto bug, but it's unclear whether the issue persists and if a widespread fix will be implemented before more users and devices are affected.
