Four wounded, including soldier, in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon

Beirut, Lebanon - The Lebanese military reported on Wednesday that an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon resulted in four casualties, including a soldier. The attack targeted an army vehicle in a town called Nabatieh al-Fawqa, causing serious injuries to the soldier and wounding three civilians, according to a statement from Lebanese forces.

The Lebanese state-run National News Agency cited an enemy drone attack on Nabatieh al-Fawqa, a location that has been repeatedly targeted by Israeli forces despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel has not yet commented on the incident.

In March, Iran-backed Hezbollah sparked the broader Middle East conflict by launching an attack on Israel. In response, Israel retaliated with extensive airstrikes and a ground invasion, which, Lebanon claims, has resulted in over 4,300 fatalities.

In June, Lebanon and Israel reached a framework agreement mediated by the United States, aiming to disarm Hezbollah, gradually withdraw Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and deploy the Lebanese army to designated regions known as "pilot zones." Since the agreement's signing, violence has diminished, as well as a US-Iran memorandum of understanding from the same month.

However, the implementation of the agreement has been impeded, with Lebanese forces only deploying in two pilot zones since July. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed the matter with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a meeting in Washington on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hezbollah remains defiant in retaining its military capabilities, and Israel continues to execute strikes in Lebanon while occupying territory in the south, despite the framework agreement.
