PM Modi’s degree personal information: Gujarat High Court rejects Kejriwal plea

The Gujarat High Court has dismissed a petition filed by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualifications. The court ruled that such information falls under the personal information exemption under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice D N Ray dismissed the plea, stating that the information is already public knowledge and not necessary for the public interest or larger public interest.

The court emphasized that even a public servant cannot be compelled to disclose personal information unless they are legally required to do so under the RTI Act. The court's decision also noted that the information Commissioner's directions to the Prime Minister's Office and the universities to disclose the specific details were also struck down.
