DeepSeek partners with Huawei to develop chip programming tools, reducing reliance on Nvidia

Chinese AI company DeepSeek has announced a partnership with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools for Huawei's Ascend chips. This move, highlighted on DeepSeek's official WeChat account, signals a growing trend among Chinese tech companies seeking alternatives to Nvidia's ecosystem. DeepSeek plans to open-source infrastructure for Huawei's Ascend platform, introducing a high-level programming language called TileLang, along with associated compute and communication libraries.

The company emphasized their commitment to creating a new generation of independent, self-controlled GPU software ecosystem. DeepSeek highlighted the importance of establishing a high-level language that is universal, easy to program, and capable of reaching the hardware's full performance potential. TileLang was specifically designed to address this requirement, offering a simpler programming model compared to Nvidia's CUDA. This simplification is expected to enhance development efficiency and streamline code logic.
