Carlos Queiroz not the sort of coach Black Stars need – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye expressed concerns about the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the Black Stars, even before his official confirmation. He believed Queiroz, the Portuguese coach, was not a suitable choice for the team given the current roster of players following Otto Addo's dismissal.

Queiroz has managed only one victory in seven games across various competitions, losing both the inaugural two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouake and Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. Vanderpuye questioned the procedures and process behind Queiroz's appointment, noting that the Black Stars only informed him and others about the search for a coach after receiving over 99 applications.

He further stated that, considering the age and profile of Queiroz, he was not the right kind of coach for the Black Stars unless those involved in the selection process were unaware of the specific needs of the team. This defeat to Gambia has left the Black Stars with zero points from their opening two qualifiers, and they currently sit at the bottom of their group heading into the subsequent matches.
