Bundespolitik: Linke-Politiker Koçak gibt Sitz im Innenausschuss auf

Berlin - Berlin's Left Party politician Ferat Koçak has resigned his seat on the Interior Committee of the German Bundestag after facing criticism for his close relationship with alleged members of criminal clan structures. In a statement on social media platform X, Koçak said he did not want his fellow lawmakers and their crucial parliamentary work to be further burdened by attacks on his character.

He had previously put his committee duties on hold due to accusations against him. Koçak acknowledged that he "made a mistake" in his dealings with a contact related to the Remmo family, admitting he was naïve and overwhelmed in that specific situation. He accepted responsibility for his actions. Koçak had found himself under pressure after the election to the Berlin parliament due to friendly chat messages exchanged with a son of a clan-associated large family.

The alleged content of those messages reportedly included a request for assistance in spreading a video featuring Koçak, a claim for which he had previously admitted he was wrong and temporarily withdrawn from public life and the Interior Committee of the Bundestag.
