Apple Pay arrives in India with Axis card support

Apple Pay has launched in India, with support for Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. This allows eligible users to make contactless payments at thousands of merchants across the country, as well as online and in apps. Users can add their Axis Bank card to Apple Wallet through the latest version of the Axis Bank app or by tapping the plus sign in the Wallet app.

At checkout, users can simply tap to pay in stores, use Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode on iPhone or Apple Watch, and make purchases in apps and on the web without entering card details or completing additional authentication steps. Apple Pay uses tokenisation technology provided by Mastercard to encrypt card information and prevent it from being shared with merchants, ensuring secure transactions.

The service is currently available in over 90 countries and regions, with Apple working to add more merchants and apps over time.
