Trump’s new AI website America.gov said Biden won 2020—then the White House made the chatbot stop answering

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump launched a revamped version of America.gov, a website aimed at streamlining access to government information and services. However, the AI-powered chatbot on the site began providing answers that contradict what Trump frequently asserts. When asked who won the 2020 election or the name of the federal department operating from the Pentagon, the bot replied with information that aligns more with Biden's administration.

The bot also stopped responding to inquiries about the 2020 election, impeachment, or felony charges. This change came shortly after the site's launch event, where Trump was still present. The AP questioned the bot about the election outcome, receiving a response stating that official federal sources do not indicate widespread fraud altered the results.

Trump, a Republican, lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden, despite claiming repeatedly that the outcome was "stolen" and that fraud occurred on a massive scale. These claims have been disproven by audits, recounts, and the administration itself, which declared the election clean. Trump has also previously declared his intention to run for a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment prohibiting this.

The Pentagon, the site's main subject, remains unchanged in description, simply stated as "the headquarters of the Department of Defense." The bot had previously referenced climate change being largely caused by human greenhouse-gas emissions, a stance Trump has consistently denied. Trump himself has claimed to be the first U.S. president to forgo a salary, a statement the bot echoed, despite its previous response.
