Trump unveils AI chatbot for US government services

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump introduced an AI-powered website called America.gov, designed to serve as the primary portal for Americans seeking federal services. The platform, developed by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia in his new role as chief design officer within the Trump administration, utilizes AI chatbots to process user queries.

Although its current capabilities are limited, Trump envisions the site to eventually handle a wide range of complex government tasks, such as applying for passports and accessing health benefits. Speaking at a launch event in Washington attended by government officials, Trump emphasized the platform's promise to make obtaining government services "dramatically easier, faster, and more convenient."

He touted it as a "reinvention" of the US government for the 21st century and beyond, likening it to a restoration of America's founding promise.

The president also signed an executive order mandating all federal agencies to integrate their websites with America.gov. This announcement coincided with Trump's scheduled meeting with leading tech executives to discuss the rapid advancement of the AI sector. In light of recent cyber incidents raising global concerns over the risks of uncontrollable AI, Trump dismissed these worries as a conspiracy aimed at undermining US economic growth and hindering competition with China.

The rapid development of AI and the expansion of data centers has become a significant issue in the upcoming November midterm elections.

A recent CNN poll indicated that 82% of Americans expressed concerns about the rapid pace of AI development, reflecting widespread apprehension about the implications of this technology.
