Telangana High Court directs DGP to identify police officials who misbehaved with woman MLAs

The Telangana High Court has ordered the Director General of Police to identify and take action against police officials who allegedly mistreated women legislators during a contentious incident on September 7. Justice T. Madhavi Devi directed the DGP to provide a report to the Speaker for necessary action, specifying that the incident occurred outside the Assembly precincts, specifically at the entry point.

The court's order came after the BRS Legislature Party filed a petition, alleging that their members were prevented from entering the Assembly at the main entry point. The High Court also clarified that it was the Speaker's responsibility, not the police, to address any violations of Assembly rules. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner intervened by seeking an interim application to vacate the order, claiming that the BRS legislators violated prohibitory orders by wearing black T-shirts with slogans.

The AG argued that BRS MLAs, including T. Harish Rao and D. Sudheer Reddy, made inappropriate comments and attempted to force their way into the Assembly. However, the court noted that the First Information Report did not mention any violation of prohibitory orders and that women legislators were not accused of misbehaving with the police.
