Paul Muite criticises Dangote after brushing off court order on Lamu refinery

Lawyer Paul Muite has lashed out at Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote following his apparent disregard for a court order halting the inauguration of his proposed refinery in Lamu. On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Muite questioned Dangote's strategy, stressing that winning over the local community is crucial for the project's success, stating, "Mr Dangote, isn't it common sense that harmony between you and the people of Lamu is necessary for your success?"

Muite further reminded Dangote that the President's authority does not override Kenyan citizens' laws and rights, and that foreign investors must comply with the laws of the countries they operate in, adding, "International law requires compliance with the host country’s laws." Dangote, however, downplayed the legal dispute, stating that it's a common occurrence in his business ventures across Africa and dismissed it as a minor setback.

He claimed that his group was ready to take legal action to safeguard its investments and was prepared to confront the individuals behind the Lamu dispute.
