Saudi crown prince, UAE vice president meet in Riyadh: report

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan met in Riyadh on Tuesday, according to Saudi official media. The two had been estranged over Yemen, the report said. The recent meeting comes as Riyadh faces weeks of attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on various infrastructure, including tankers, oil facilities, airports and even the capital.

The crown prince and vice president discussed "brotherly bilateral relations and regional developments," the Saudi Press Agency stated. The meeting also included Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman. In December, Saudi Arabia accused Abu Dhabi of threatening national security by supporting southern Yemeni separatists. However, in July, officials from both nations began posting messages on social media about friendship and unity, signaling a tentative reconciliation.

The civil war in Yemen reignited in July after the Houthis launched a new campaign against the Saudi-led government, taking control of territory and attacking Saudi soil. The group has also imposed a maritime blockade on Saudi ships in the Red Sea. Riyadh has been striking Houthi targets while seeking help from international allies, and the two countries have had foreign policy differences over Yemen, Sudan and the Horn of Africa.
