Roads Minister urges motorists to drive cautiously on Accra-Kumasi Highway

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Govern Kwame Agbodza, has urged motorists to exercise caution while driving on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. In a recent media interview, Mr Agbodza highlighted the ongoing efforts by the government to tackle congestion and enhance the road's condition. He explained that the current road had been operating beyond its capacity for several years, making it increasingly difficult for drivers to maintain a steady speed, particularly during heavy traffic.

The high volume of vehicles on the highway has sometimes led to drivers engaging in risky maneuvers to navigate through traffic, which occasionally results in accidents.

Mr Agbodza emphasized that the situation necessitates motorists to be more vigilant while the government works towards resolving the challenges on the road. The congestion on the highway is one of the key factors contributing to hazardous driving behavior, as some motorists attempt risky actions that could endanger themselves and other road users. He stressed that these dangerous maneuvers often lead to disastrous consequences.

The minister expressed gratitude to the highways authorities, consultants, and contractors involved in the improvement project for their contributions thus far. He acknowledged the importance of their work and returning to the site to assess the current state of the road and the progress of the rehabilitation efforts. As work continues to alleviate the pressure on the highway, Mr Agbodza urged motorists to maintain restraint, especially when facing slow-moving traffic.

He cautioned that the ongoing rehabilitation should not be perceived as an invitation to disregard road safety rules or engage in reckless driving.
