Meet Kameirah Johnson, 18, who won Doodle for Google and $55,000 scholarship

In a nationwide contest, 18-year-old Kameirah Johnson from Renton, Washington, has emerged victorious in the 2026 Doodle for Google competition. Her winning artwork, which features a close-up of hair as a symbol of identity and heritage, has now replaced the iconic Google logo on the search engine's homepage. The Renton, Washington, senior at Lakeside School, beat thousands of other entrants to secure her place among the finalists.

Johnson's artwork, titled "Hair Power: The Crown That Grows from Us," emphasizes the importance of family, cultural identity, and self-expression. For her achievement, Johnson was awarded a $55,000 college scholarship and Lakeside School received a $50,000 technology package. The talented student will pursue a dual major in economics and studio arts at New York University, her dream college.
