Fighting in Yemen displaces 16,000 over past week: IOM

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has forced approximately 16,000 individuals to flee their homes over the past week, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The UN agency reported that 145,308 people, comprising around 24,218 households, were displaced across eight governorates since the escalation of insecurity on the western coast in June. The number of displaced individuals increased by 12 percent, or 15,870 people, between September 21 and 28.

IOM's chief of mission in Yemen, Abdusattor Esoev, emphasized that every week sees thousands of people leaving everything behind to escape the violence. The affected individuals include parents striving to protect their children, older people unable to travel far distances, and families with limited resources. He stressed the urgent need for assistance, stating that families require shelter, food, and protection.
